Gay sherlock holmes

Given the Victorian era, a writer couldn't deliberately create an openly (or even quietly) gay couple for public literary consumption. But gay people existed, and had romances.
Sherlock Holmes and Oscar Wilde have quite a few things in common, both in appearance and personality. So, it is not that far of a stretch to think that Doyle might have used gay subtext in his stories as well, even if it was much more subtle than Wilde’s.
